STOP PRESS! – THE BRIDGE DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY
The Bridge Dumfries and Galloway is a new charitable organisation, formed from a merger of Wigtown Council for Voluntary Service and Dumfries & Galloway Federation of CVS. The merger has been agreed by the organisations’ members in preparation for planned changes in Scottish Government funding of voluntary sector support organisations.
The Bridge Dumfries & Galloway will continue to support voluntary organisations and not-for-profit businesses (known as social enterprises) in Wigtownshire and those regional and national organisations which operate across Dumfries and Galloway. Support can include providing training for volunteer Board members, advising on issues encountered by the organisations or helping with applications for grant funding. There is also an important role in keeping these organisations informed about local and national issues which affect them, opportunities to attract funds and ensuring that their views are heard in discussions with statutory organisations such as the Council and the NHS.
Chair of both Wigtown CVS and Dumfries & Galloway Federation of CVS, Robert Sneddon, said “I am delighted with the decision to merge the two organisations into The Bridge Dumfries & Galloway. It will give us the opportunity to fulfil the Scottish Government’s requirement to be more effective and represents an exciting new development.”
